Just a few days apart

Two Illogan curates start new ministries

Revd Richard Selby-Boothroyd

St Illogan Parish is proud to have launched two of its curates into new
parish ministries - one in Wiltshire and the other much nearer to home.

Revd Richard Selby-Boothroyd joined our parish in December 2009 and, together with his wife Judy, quickly endeared himself to us. Little did we know at the time, but his stay with us would be relatively brief.

On Wednesday 21st September he was licensed as an Associate Priest in the parish of Lyneham with Bradenstoke, an area that is destined to see much change with the closure of RAF Lyneham.

(Revd) Mike and Sue Kippax travelled to Wiltshire to join in the festivities which, at Richard’s suggestion, were held in both churches - the first part in Bradenstoke (including the sermon) and the second in Lyneham (including the food!). Richard and Judy are pictured here in the porch of Lyneham Parish Church, looking extremely happy.

Four days later Sharon Clifton conducted her final services at Illogan Village Hall and St Mary’s Church, before commencing her ministry as an Associate Priest in the Godrevy Team - Hayle, Phillack, St Erth and Gwithian. We expect that she will be officially licensed on 4th November.

Launching Sharon

Revd Sharon Clifton joined us when she was ordained on 30th June 2007. To start with she was a non-stipendiary (unpaid) minister
and travelled up from her home in Penzance. However, in February 2008 she became our full-time curate and moved into Church House in Bosmeor Park.

During her theological training Sharon had been described as having a ‘Heineken ministry’, reaching the parts that other clergy cannot reach! Little wonder, then, that she has amassed a large group of friends over the past four years.

Saying ‘goodbye’ turned out to be a lengthy and emotional process, with presentations in each of our three churches. Sharon was presented with a special cake and sparklers at St Mary’s, and Pictured below Frank Baker gives her a nice cheque.
