Portreath airmen fly in - with strimmers
Following the recent Battle of
Britain Memorial Service and
wreath laying in the War Graves
Cemetery our Rector received a
most welcome offer of help in the
churchyard from RAF Portreath
personnel.
A meeting was arranged on site
with Flight Lieutenant Ben
Pasfield and Flight Sergeant Dave
Webb and over the following
days up to ten airmen in combat atigues
did battle with some of our notoriously
aggressive brambles. The results of their
work are clear to see and will give huge encouragement to us in our winter
clearance programme.
Tools and strimmers were kindly loaned
by Portreath Garden Machinery Ltd and
are most grateful to Mr Stovell and his
team for their generosity and co-operation
Portreath airmen maintain a
close link with our church and its
war memorials which we greatly
value. They will, of course, be
represented, in full uniform this
time, at the armistice service and
parade on Remembrance
Sunday, the 8th of November.
