Portreath School
gives water to Mvumi
Money donated at Portreath Primary School’s Christmas Show has bought
a much-needed water tank for a school in Tanzania.
St Mary’s Church members David and
Jan Townend are presently working in Tanzania, reinforcing the strong links between this parish and St Andrew’s Church in Mvumi.
Recently they visited Mvumi Mission Primary School to meet the Headmaster and the Deputy Headmistress, to enjoy
a guidedtour of the school and to learn
about its current needs. It is avery good school by Tanzanian standards, being placed top nationally in 2006 in the
Primary School Leaving Examination,
resulting in a congratulatory visit by the
President and the First Lady!
The pupils in Standard 6, the next-to-last class, have no textbooks at present; the syllabus has recently been radically changed and there is no money to buy
the new books to go with it. Change (or improvement) is something we take for granted but it costs money, so very often things that need changing must
just stay the same.

Mvumi’s primary school Headteacher accepts an envelope containing
the equivalent of £400 for the water tank and some text books.
