A summer of celebration

Trevenson

Trevenson Church opened on July 6th 1809, making it the oldest of our three churches. The newspapers of 1809
were full of reports about the Napoleonic Wars, with Austria falling to Napoleons army on July 5th. Two weeks earlier, Dartmoor Prison had opened to house French prisoners of war.

In peaceful Pool the population was rising
rapidly as people moved into the area,
seeking work in the copper mines and
associated industries. They needed some-
where to worship and so Trevenson Church
was born, built on land bought from Lord
Falmouth and given to the Parish by Lord
de Dunstanville of Tehidy.

The close association between Trevenson
Church and local industry continues to this
day; an association reinforced by the
neighbouring school, now named Pool
Business; Enterprise College. Later this
year church, college and industry will
combine for a Harvest Festival with a
difference; a Harvest of Industry.

Before then, a whole summer of activities
is planned, including a special Birthday
Service with Bishop Roy on Sunday July 5th.
