Christmas comes late to Trevenson

For most of us, Christmas is a distant memory and decorations have been safely stored away.
But Trevenson has just been given a Christmas present!

Natalie Goldner

Natalie Goldner presents Revd Mike Kippax with a cheque for £528.11,
along with a couple of the knitted figures from the Nativity Scene.

Natalie and Linda, who run the Mysterious Lady and Hands On Crafts shop in Fore Street, wanted to raise money towards restoration of a large painting in Trevenson Church, titled ‘The Dead Saviour, Virgin and Angels’. It was commissioned by
Lord de Dunstanville, painted in 1808 by John Lane and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London in the same year.

The painting’s early fortunes are shrouded in mystery. It was soon removed from the church and eventually discovered in a
chicken coop in Penzance, where upon it was returned to Trevenson and eventually became a great favourite of Natlie’s mum,
Janet Goldner, who died last July. In her time, Janet too had raised money for the painting’s restoration.

Natalie and Linda’s idea was to create a nativity scene of knitted figures, display it in their shop over the Christmas season
and ask for donations. Their customers responded with enormous enthusiasm.

On February 2nd Natalie presented the Rector with a cheque for £528.11 and a sack-full of the colourful knitted figures that had featured in the Nativity Scene and will now doubtless find their way into the church’s own decorations next Christmas.
