Illogan Curate makes the sun shine

As Richard Selby-Boothroyd opened Trevenson’s Summer Fair, dark rain
clouds parted and the sun shone. Ninety minutes later the sky was blue!
It’s July 16th, it’s 8.30am and pouring with rain. We at Trevenson are at the hall preparing our stalls inside, instead of in the
garden, but it doesn’t deter us. We soon have everything ready, with the help of two able-bodied teenagers – Pat Hedges’ grandchildren soon had the gazebo up for the BBQ. The reception area is transformed into a flower and plant stall, along with facepainting and Tombola. Further inside there’s bric-a-brac and chinaware, beautiful handmade jewellery, cakes, toys and tasty sandwiches, cream teas tea and coffees.
In the church itself we have books, CDs, DVDs and good quality clothes. We are ready to open, and Richard says a prayer...
By 12.30 crowds of happy people were eating, drinking, chatting and laughing together. I was in the kitchen as usual, (I know my place) and looking across the hall I counted 4 ninety-plus people (one of them helped in the kitchen) 5 eighty-plus, us youngsters and lots of children. What a mixed group! I was so proud to be a member of this church where everyone joins in to help and encourage each other.
At 3pm we were all nearly on our knees, but we went home happy and contented with our day in which we raised £885.19 – half for the hall and half for the Phoenix Stroke Ward Appeal.
May God bless all who attended and all the helpers. Another successful fete under our belts!
Wendy King.
