We have Raised the Roof !

Raise the RoofThe Raise the Roof thermometer has gone off the scale. Not £100,000, not £200,000 but a colossal £300,700 has been raised so far, including all our efforts from special events, collections , donations and grants from national and local funding bodies. Thank you to all!

The great news this month has been a grant of £25,000 from the SITA Environmental Trust, giving us the confidence to appoint a contractor, though we still await final English Heritage approval before
we can go ahead.

Inevitably perhaps, the total price of the work is somewhat more than we expected and there are still some unknown factors that may inflate the cost still further. Consequently, we will continue to look for more fund
raising, especially if we are to decorate properly and replace the church’s ancient heating system, and we
still await one major funding body’s decision in late May.

However, by using reserves that would have to be repaid later, we are confident that work will begin this
Summer, probably early in June. The bad news is that the church may be closed until Christmas, so we are making arrangements to keep our services and some other regular events running during the disruption.

As was said last month, we continue to be grateful for all those who have patiently worked so hard towards
the successful completion of this large and expensive project.
