Sleeping rough in Cardboard City

Young folk from St Mary’s recently set up a Cardboard City in the churchyard. They slept out all night and raised £110 for the St Petroc’s Society.
One of the brave volunteers was Lucy Goldring. She takes up the story...
Before we settled down for the night a representative from St Petroc’s came to talk to us and explain the work of the charity. We learned how awful it is to be homeless and how the Society helps homeless people, giving them an address so they are able to get a job, receive post, etc. They also provide places to bath and pass on food donated to the Society.
For our night of homelessness we had to make beds out of smallish cardboard boxes, sort of 1 to 1½ feet long! Jordan made a bed box with a roof that was supported by a wooden plank. For tea, we ate pot noodles that had been donated to us.
We slept in full sets of clothes, but it was still cold ! We had to sleep holding our shoes, so that they wouldn’t get stolen – not the most comfortable of ways to sleep!
Adam, Tom, Sarah, Emily, Jordan, Kieta, Jackie, Daniel, Lucy (that’s me!), Steph, Dave, Chantel, Cory, Justin, Ben, Peta and Dee all made Portreath churchyard our home that night. Dee and Peta stayed up all night on the plastic ground sheet, so we were well cared for. We had chocolate biscuits that were donated to us too, so that kept us happy.
