An amazing activity week for teenagers
The Hub

During the last week of the summer holidays St Mary’s became The Hub. We met over 80 teenagers across the week and had a fantastic time. The Hub was a week of evening activities for the 12+ age range. We built relationships between the church and young people by providing activities that were both fun and meaningful. There were several zones: the chill out zone, the climbing wall and the main activity hall (dance, craft, massage) with the big screenplay station. However, the favourite zone was the café with all manner of tasty snacks.

In addition, we took some time out at the end of each evening to explore Christian values with regard to life style choices using the recently released ‘Nooma’ films. Each film looked at the difficulties we face, made worse without God at the centre.

Some of the teenagers who came have decided to come to more church activities. Some have joined our young leaders programme on Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings. Some are going to join us for our next youth Alpha.

Many others just had a good time and tapped into the support agencies that were there. Our local community police support officers were with us for two nights, playing games with the young people and building relationships with them.

The most exciting aspect of the week for me was seeing a very large team of adults, Christian and non-Christian, come together to work with and build relationships with young people. I would like to thank the Diocese of Truro and the Portreath Improvements Committee for funding The Hub.
