Schools work just grows and grows

| Pool Business & Enterprise College’s carol service in Trevenson Church was a spectacular success – definitely the best ever! Children sang in the choir, played in the band and read, and so many of their family members turned up that we ran out of programmes. £95 was raised for Chris Whetter’s school in Sri Lanka. |
At Pool College we continue to see new faces at the lunchtime club. In December we held our own Christingle that was both fun and very moving as we prayed for young people living on the streets in this country.
For the second year, Treloweth School held a carol service on the last afternoon of term – a wonderful way to end the year. It was a school version of ‘Nine Lessons and Carols’ (i.e. less of each!).
In Illogan the new after-school club ‘Fusion’ has gone from strength to strength. We have a regular crew of 25+ young people who tuck into tea (TeaTime Service style) and then lap up a combination of slap-stick games and Biblical teaching.
At Portreath School we have continued our termly services at St. Mary’s, the most recent being a Christingle which not only had the whole school but also over 80 adults having fun and praying for homeless young people.
This term has also seen a new after-school club at Portreath school. It seemed quite popular when, one week, over 40 young people opted to join!
We praise God for all this and warmly thank the staff and governors of the schools for their willingness to work with their local churches.
We are so belssed to have an area absolutely full with such wonderful schools. The future? Well firstly the ability to continue good youth work can only be sustained if we are able to raise up new leaders...and yes we have seen new new youth leaders both adult and teenagers putting themsleves forward into leadership roles. Second a church needs to see youth and family work as a whole ...and yes we need to work on this and we will. Extending our youth work into the wider family and into their homelife is the next difficult but essential stage. We wait for God to move us and equip us into this vision of reaching out to the 'Whole Family'.To all those involved with schools work and youth work across this parish - may the God who said 'let the children come to me' bless you and God's work that you are so faithfully engaged with. To a new year and what ever the Holy Spirit brings!
