The Alpha Course
an opportunity to explore the meaning of life

Looking for answers? The Alpha course is an opportunity to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed, non-threatening manner over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions.

Our Alpha courses are friendly and fun. We have a meal together at the beginning of each session which gives you the opportunity to get to know the other people on the course.

Listen, learn, discuss and discover. Ask anything you want. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.

Almost 4 million people worldwide have already found Alpha a worthwhile experience. It's supported by all the main Christian denominations.

When are our next Alpha Courses?
Starting on Tuesday 17th April at St Mary's Church. To book your place, phone Helen on 01209 843268 or Janet on 01209 842658.

Is it for me? Alpha is for everyone, especially –
• Those wanting to investigate Christianity
• New Christians
• Newcomers to our churches
• Those who want to brush up on the basics

How much does it cost?
Alpha is free! If you wish, you can make a small contribution towards the cost of food.

Essence
An exploration of contemporary spirituality

Essence is designed for all who recognize they are on a spiritual journey and who have a desire to travel further. It is especially suited to those familiar with New Age concepts who are wondering whether Christianity can still answer the important questions of life.

"Here is a course that connects with where people really are rather than were the church thinks they ought to be. It will not suit everyone, but that is why it will prove valuable to many and particularly to those seekers afte spirituality who have found the church unhelpful in the past." (Revd Derek Allan, Baptist Union of Great Britain)

We last ran Essence in May-June 2006. It was a great success, so we'll be doing it again before too long.

Family Time
a new course for mums and dads

What’s the toughest, most stressful job in the world? A job that takes every ounce of energy but is also the most rewarding?

Is it a soldier, a fire-fighter, a nurse, a teacher? No, being a PARENT!

Family Time is a new course on parenting, developed by Mark and Lindsay Melluish (of New Wine fame) and based on their book of the same name. Its aim is to provide parents with tools, advice and support to help them raise their family in the best possible way. Based on Christian principles, Family Time is both practical and biblical, and is a course that every parent will benefit from, whether Christian or not.

Family Time will run every Wednesday evening at St Mary’s from January 18th to February 15th, 7.30 to 9.30pm. Each week there will be...
• Welcome and Chat
• Input Time
• Opportunity to discuss issues together

Being a parent is not about being perfect and we’re not alone in the difficulties we have as parents.

Drug-Proofing Your Kids

What do you fear the most?
Ask any parent what they fear the most for their children and the conversation will turn, sooner or later, to drugs. The issue of drug use often gets parents worried, simply because there seems to be so much they don’t know.

Peer pressure
It’s often assumed that teenagers try drugs to appear ‘cool’, but that is not always the case. Apart from boredom, the main reason for experimenting is peer pressure. Parent powerParents are the best placed to talk to their children about drugs and can have a b positive influence on them. It might seem that your children never listen to a word you say, but they will watch what you do.

Knowledge
Young people often know more about drugs than their parents do and can be reluctant to discuss drugs with their parents.

‘DRUG-PROOFING KIDS’ shows parents how they can realistically help their children make intelligent choices from a position of knowledge. Just knowing about drugs isn’t enough; you also need to be able to talk with your children about them, so they can make wise decisions about alcohol and other drugs.

Ultimately, the drugs issue comes down to young people making choices for themselves.

A new course is planned for the near future. Email us for more details.
